A day in the life...

Every few years I write a "day in the life" in my journal.  I document what my life was like that day.  It's fun to go back and read the things I did and what things occupied my time for the day.  Someday I'd like to compile them all into one book. I think that would be fun to look back on.

I decided this morning that today would be the day to document.

Jeff's been working long hours - exhausting him mentally and exhausting me physically taking care of the girls. I woke up this morning knowing it was going to be a rainy day, Jeff said he'd be home late, and I've been dying to play around with my new camera.  Those three things combined to create the perfect day to document and keep me occupied all day. :)

I decided to do it differently this time.  I set my alarm on my phone for each hour. When the alarm went off I had to take a picture of whatever was going on at that moment.  It made the day go by fast! I know this is going to be super boring for most of you, but it's great for me and my family journal. And it's amazing when you see the plain and simple things going on in a day, my day looks pretty bland. But there you have it. This was my day.

Jeff - Age 33, Laura - Age 31
Brielle - Age 19 months, Rosalyn - Age 7 months today!
Bellevue, WA

6:00AM - nursed Rosalyn, put her back to bed. Made Jeff breakfast and packed a lunch for him. Went back to bed.
(in case you are wondering what that food is, it's pesto pasta)

7:00am - Jeff's ready for work and heading out the door. He's up early to get some work in before an 8:00 sales meeting with the whole branch. He gets ready quietly to not wake up the girls. I suggest he wears his tie from our wedding, and he does!

8:00am - I tried to fall back asleep since the girls were still sleeping.  I'm woken up by the remodeling project going on in the condo above us.  Drilling and sawing.  Super annoying.  This picture is of the ceiling...my view from the bed.  I'm making angry tired faces directed at this view.

9:00am - Both girls awake, I'm dressed and ready to go. Getting girls breakfast. Brielle LOVES scrambled eggs.  I make her a big batch and keep them in the fridge for breakfast for a few days. She's always drinking her sippy cup sideways so she can keep an eye on what's going on.  She has to be right in the action at all times. Silly girl. It makes me laugh. Oh, and I also caught her little crossed feet in this picture.  She's so lady-like all the time. :)

10:00am - We are at music time.  Lots of kids there today, and it was lots of fun! We sang some new songs.  Here is Brielle dancing with scarves for one of the songs.

11:00am - Rosalyn is tired from all the excitement of music time.  I get her bed ready to put her down for a nap.  At night she sleeps in this pack n play in our guest bathroom.  In the afternoons I move it into our bedroom so Brielle won't wake her up. (ha ha...it works most of the time)
Yes, this is embarrassing.  My baby sleeps in a bathroom.  But this is our life right now and I'm documenting it.

12:00pm - Rosalyn wakes up. I go get her and bring her out into the front room.  Brielle has managed to grab the bag of cheerio's from the pantry and is eating them on the slide. And spilling them.  I guess it's time for some lunch.

1:00pm - Everyone is fed and diapers are changed...now it's playtime.  Rosalyn was playing with this little piano and Brielle came over and sat on her and tries to play it to.  She's nice about it, they giggle together as they both pound on the keys.

2:00pm - Brielle is down for a nap, it's just Rosalyn and I.  She's my buddy as I try to get some chores done. I quietly empty and load the dishwasher.

3:00pm - Rosalyn is down for her nap. I sneak in when my alarm goes off and snap a picture. She's kicked off her swaddled blanket and is sleeping soundly.

4:00pm - Both girls are awake! Lots of noise from upstairs remodeling. But the girls are rested and happy.  I get Brielle up from her crib after she plays and talks to herself for a little while in there.

5:00pm - Have a chat with my mom on the phone. We discussed potty training tips. I took this picture in the mirror.  I pulled out toy cell phones for Brielle to play with, and she never seemed to notice I was on the phone. I think she thought I was playing with her.

5:30pm - I was going to take the girls to the park, but it was raining earlier. So we went out on the patio.

6:00pm - I put on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon while I feed Rosalyn. Brielle likes to watch it too. Oh, and she's in a new outfit because she spilled on the other one.

6:30pm - Yay, Daddy's home!! Earlier than I expected. Brielle loves to wait outside for him and gets excited when she sees his car come around the corner. She always gives me a little heart attack as she runs across the parking lot to go get him.

7:00pm - We finished dinner. Jeff feeds Rosalyn for me. I love that during the day he discusses finances with millionaires and at night he feeds a baby some baby food.  He's so versatile. :)

8:00pm - finishing bathtime. Rosalyn discovers she can splash the water and Brielle looks confused about why she is splashing her.

9:00pm - both girls are in bed.  I am exhausted.

10:00pm - no picture...I'm uploading pictures to this post!

11:00pm - I hope I'm asleep! Because I do it all again tomorrow!

What a day.  It was terribly normal and wonderfully unique at the same time.  Every day is different with babies!  It seems like I do nothing and everything. All of the small things like diaper changes, washing hands and cleaning up today went undocumented. But they happened. Often. And it was glorious. I enjoyed a wonderful day of motherhood at its finest.

P.S. Now it's your turn! Anyone out there want to document a day in the life of your life?
