The other side of the news

I only like to blog when I have pictures to post.  The pictures give me a visual of what we've been up to, and that's all people want to see anyway, right? But I don't have pictures of everything we do all the time, so I guess I'd follow up my last picture blog post with the other side of the news...things that are happening that don't have pictures to keep you entertained. :)

  • The biggest news is that Jeff got a promotion and will be working as an "Investment Representative" for Fidelity. This means he has to switch to a different branch office, so instead of working in downtown Seattle, he will be working in downtown Bellevue. It is actually closer to us, so it's great. He'll still take the bus though, which will make his commute about the same length as it was going to Seattle. He's excited for his new position...he'll get to sit down with clients and discuss their financial plans for the future. He really likes that.
  • Last night we fed the homeless. It was a great experience. I'm in charge of Humanitarian Aid for our ward, and we were assigned to provide lunch and dinner for a group of 30 homeless men. I coordinated it, but it came together because a lot of people donated tons of food, and it was awesome. It really puts life in perspective...I went to bed last night so happy to be sleeping on a comfortable mattress indoors with access to everything I need.
  • My siblings just had their last day of school yesterday. So summer has officially begun for the kids in Washington. Isn't that interesting...it seems so late to get out of school. But it makes sense...the sun is just coming out now and things are warming up...it didn't feel like summer since we're so far up north.  Everyone else is getting tan and swimming and we're still adjusting to not wearing jackets.
  • Speaking of getting tan....I thought it was interesting when I moved here that every single apartment complex offered "free tanning" in their tanning bed on site. I've never seen that before. I guess because the sun doesn't shine much, everyone fake-bakes it. I've never tried it myself....but maybe that's something I have to try to be a true Washingtonian? They are so into the environment and being "green"....it makes me laugh how many people smoke and go to tanning beds. Ok, random thought and not really news-worthy. :)
  • We live only 10 minutes away from our temple. Can I just tell you how awesome that is? I see it all the time, and it is so fun to be driving along and notice the temple. How lucky we are to be able to go to it so conveniently and see it all the time!
  • I'm still clogging. It has been so much fun to be dancing and I love meeting each week to do it with the group. I don't have any more sciatic pain, so I'm living it up while it lasts! I was assisting in a drama class this week for 5-7 year olds and had so much fun with the kids. It is surreal to think that in 5 years I'll have a little one in a class like that! Crazy.
Well, that's all I can think of at the moment for "other news".  Life's good!
