HoT SuMmeR!

This has been the hottest summer of my life! How do people live here?? Well, I guess because we have to. It was 100+ degrees the whole month of July & August, and some of September so far. Whew! I liken it to stepping outside and feeling like a hot blow dryer is on your face....but no matter where you go it doesn't get any cooler. It was quite awful. Luckily the weather has turned slightly cooler and is only 80-90 degrees....that feels COOL to me!

It was so hot outside, our plants in our yard withered and our now brown garden is no longer growing. The pavement on the freeways buckled from the heat! On top of the horrible heat, we were in a major drought. They restricted watering to certain days and hours and some cities weren't allowed to water anything outside at all. It was an interesting summer, and made me all the more appreciative for a working air conditioner.

Because the ground is so dry, it pulls away from the foundation of houses here in Texas. This causes cracks and tons of foundation issues. We discovered our first HUGE crack on the side of our house:

This picture doesn't do it justice...it is the wall of our garage, and you can see through it. I literally gasped when I saw it. Ah, Texas + foundation problems! Luckily, our home foundation warranty will cover it getting fixed...although not until November. :) We can't complain when it's free. Ha.

Jeff and I enjoyed the days of summer eating BBQ ribs. Jeff has been on a rib-kick after he saw ribs discounted and came home with 5 to put in our freezer. Ha! We have been grilling them...and they have been yummy! I think Jeff ate the whole rack below. ha! I am ribbed-out and won't need to eat any more for a long time. :)

We have been wanting to get a new tv for a long time. Here is our old TV:

Jeff found a great craigslist deal for a TV and bought it the same night:
It has been so nice to have a big TV, and we have loved it so far! It's true...once you go big, you can never go back. :) Jeff's hooked up his laptop to it, so we've been watching football games and other fun things. Now we can stay inside with the AC and watch TV! :)
