Green-Thumb-Saturday

Spring is just around the corner, so we decided to do a little pruning before the new growth starts. We got a workout from doing yard work! Being the manly man that Jeff is, he got a little carried away with this effort. I kept telling him, "every limb you cut down we have to pick up!" :) He has this battery powered chopper-thing that he went crazy with.... ha ha. The end result:

Now, how do we dispose of all of these limbs? I wrapped up half of them for the garbage, and the others will have to be cut up some more before we can put them on the curb. But the trees look great and pruned perfectly (thanks to google and my hunky man!) and I'm excited to see the new growth.

Last Saturday we purchased supplies for our garden:

It has been fun learning about Texas gardening! I've done a lot of research online, and have a great book that has been helpful. We're doing the work now...with hopes for a yummy garden later!

After all that hacking away at the trees, we went to the backyard and planted our garden. We were even more tired after this adventure! Maybe planting so many different plants is a little adventurous... we were pretty pooped after the second bed. :) But we kept going and have a great finished product....or so we hope.....we'll see what grows!

We still have zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe & potatoes to plant at the end of the month! How fun to start a garden!

The carrots I planted in the Fall are ready to eat...they are delicious!

I have a much greater appreciation for everyone throughout time that had to live off the land. We just take all of these foods for granted...buying them quick at the grocery store. I didn't realize how much planning and preparation it takes to create just one crop! I'm already learning a lot of life lessons from my garden. :)
