The Sunday Evening Post

I really only blog when I have something "big" to blog about...i.e. I took a picture to document the moment that will become blog material.

But this week nothing "big" happened....just the same old same old. So I guess I'll blog about the "small" stuff. Sorry I don't have any pictures to keep this post interesting. :)

* For Christmas I gave Jeff a subscription to the Wall Street Journal. It started this week and now we wake up to a freshly thrown newspaper on our driveway. I feel like we've arrived...we're officially homeowners. I also feel like a perfect housewife as I pack Jeff a lunch, make him breakfast, give him the newspaper and send him off to work. Who would have thought a newspaper would spark such emotions?

* My spring semester of classes that I teach at the theater start up this week. Here we go! Teaching is an exhausting job, and just seems like it never ends. There are always more lesson plans to work on, more activities to prepare. But I sure do love it. I am excited to get back to teaching my fabulous kids. I am convinced they will be stars some day...and in their future acceptance speeches they'll mention Miss Laura that started it all. :) ha ha. One class in particular is going to be fun this semester....we have been adapting a script from the movie Disney's Enchanted. The show is funny, the music is catchy, and I think the kids will love it.

* Jeff has been playing football, basketball and tennis often. He enjoys playing sports and he usually plays with his fun co-workers which makes it enjoyable and good exercise. We've been meaning to get a gym membership for a while now....but I've just been enjoying going on the trails by my house for my workout.

* A few months ago I saw an advertisement calling for volunteers for the Superbowl. I looked into it and signed us up.... :) The Superbowl is being held at a stadium about 20 minutes from us...so we're starting to feel the Superbowl fever. They have tons of activities/parties/service projects scheduled in the weeks leading up to the Superbowl. We will volunteer at some activity in a few weeks. Tomorrow night we have to go get our pictures taken and pick up our "uniform." I have been getting tons of emails about volunteering that I need to go through and read, I think this is bigger than what I expected it to be. :) But we'll see!

* Friday night I surprised Jeff by taking him to the Old Bedford School building where they were showing the classic movie: Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe. The old school building is 100 years old and pretty neat inside. They have a theater upstairs where they are showing classics...a great, cheap way for the building to make $! So we went and saw it....it is a hilarious movie if anyone cares. It was fun to see how different life was like back then, and also how different their ideas were. There is one scene where a man disguises himself as a lady...and then gets proposed to. I think the whole audience was shocked when the main character discovered the proposal and said "A man can't marry a man! How crazy is that? There are conventions in place!....etc" It was amazing to see that not that long ago it was absurd to even think of gay marriage. Now it is so common place. hmm.. But I digress...it was a fun night and I love watching the classics every now and then!

* We have been thinking about what trips and vacation days we have this year...we haven't figured anything out yet. The one trip I think we'll make is to go to Omaha, Nebraska. What's there? Well, the Warren Buffett shareholder meeting for Berkshire Hathaway of course! Jeff's been wanting to go.... so I'm going to look into it! Ha ha, aren't we nerds? :)

* I am currently reading George W. Bush's biography that just came out called Decision Points. It is very interesting. I love reading biographies. It is broken up in short chapters which makes it pretty easy to read. Jeff is reading Jim Cramer's new book: Getting Back To Even -- an investing book. We still don't have a nice tv or cable since we moved to Texas. We miss the tv (but get whatever we need from the internet nowadays!) but we have read so many books these past 2 years! I love it!

* Today is snowed in Texas. Can you believe it? It was probably snowing for a couple hours....stuck to the ground a little and then melted by the evening. Jeff and I were cracking up at how Texans reacted to the snow! Our ward had pretty low-attendance, and others expressed their fear of driving in it. This cracked me up because there was NO snow on the roads.... :)

* Jeff spent 6.5 hours today at church. NOT including the actual 3 hour long church meetings. Whew! He is a busy busy guy with his calling and his long hours at his job. But he bears it cheerfully!
