Spotlight : Laura

This is Jeff ... I know, shocker I'm posting on the blog ... Laura does a much better job than I do so I let her do it but recently she was "spotlighted" in our ward Relief Society and the person who wrote up and did the spotlight had some good writings I thought would be fun to share. .... so .... Here is what the sisters at Church had to guess who this described and learn more about. My beautiful and talented wife Laura! ;-)

Laura Tolsma

This month's spotlight is all about the stage!!

During her college tenure at BYU, Provo, Dancing Queen worked her way up on the Folk Dance team, until she was able to be on the touring team.  She was elated to visit Switzerland, France, and Belgium, where the team performed at various cultural festivals representing the U.S.A.

Taking time off for a mission, she served in the Germany/Austria Mission, where she was called as an outreach missionary who focused on getting the youth involved, and proselyting at universities.

Upon returning to BYU, she resumed her dancing queen ways, joining the dance group once again.  It was then that she met her main squeeze...only he wasn't one of her dancing partners,  he was a guitar player in the band!  They were full of amour as they traveled with the Folk Dance team throughout Italy and France, which culminated in his proposal of marriage.  They were married January 18th, 2008 in the Mt. Timpanogas Temple.

After her marriage, Dancing Queen graduated from BYU with her degree in Theater Studies with an emphasis on Drama Turgy. She worked for three years as an Education Director at a theater in Texas, where her Hubby(we'll call him Paintball, but more on that later) took a job at an insurance company.

The Early Years....

Dancing Queen had lots of chances to overcome stage fright.  The oldest of five, her family lived in several different places.  She has lived in Utah, California, Washington, Texas, Illinois/ Chicago area, Kansas,    and Japan.  Her whole family lived in Japan when she was ten years old for two years.  There she attended International School and learned Japanese.  Upon her return to the states, she realized she had been following the latest Japanese trends, which were about a decade behind the U.S. at the time......she really rocked that fanny pack!!

Since the birth of her daughter, Dancing Queen has been teaching once a week drama classes at a youth Theatre on Mercer Island.  She is loving the pacific northwest, and being close to her parents and younger siblings who reside in Olympia.

A few facts about Dancing Queen's Hubby...

Paintball owned and operated his own paintball company as a college student at BYU, as well as his own sound equipment company which he sold upon graduating with a degree in Recreational Management.  He works for Fidelity, in  Bellevue where he has found his true passion.
