Labor Day trip

We took a trip for Labor Day weekend down to Fredricksburg, Texas. It was a four hour drive south towards Austin, and we went with another couple. We had such a fun time--perfect weather, food, sights & accommodations.
Fredricksburg has over 300 Bed & Breakfasts. We chose a cute one outside of town on a ranch called Lost Creek. We stayed at Nash Farmhouse which was a restored late 1800's home. It has old furnishings and was the most relaxing place to stay. I was a little nervous about the critters around, but our stay proved uneventful for which I was grateful.
Jeff and I decided that when we retire we'll run a few Bed & Breakfasts out in the country. :)

The highlight of the trip was something we weren't expecting....the National Museum of the Pacific War is located in the small town of Fredricksburg, TX. Admiral Nimnitz from WWII Pacific War was born there, so that is where they chose to build the museum. It was an incredible museum full of amazing pictures, movies and displays. I would recommend it to anyone. You can check out their website here.

Our favorite part was the "Living History" re-enactment. They had a program that re-enacted a battle in the south pacific against the Japanese. They showed and demonstrated all of their guns and ammunition...machine guns, hand guns, everything. We had to wear earplugs throughout the entire thing. It was very interesting, although I got a little squimish whenever they would shoot their guns. They even demonstrated a flame thrower! At the end they fought a battle and brought in a tank and everything. It was incredible.

We got the boys to take a picture with the guy with the cigar in his mouth. He cracked us up the whole show, he was totally into it.

The museum made me so grateful for all of those people that sacrificed so much in that war. I couldn't believe the fighting conditions they were in, and what was at stake. I was just blown away by it, and it made me so grateful. It was a wonderful museum, and worth the trip itself.

Fredricksburg is an old German town. It was fun for me to be reminded of my mission. Our first night there we ate at a German restaurant. Yum! I don't know if anyone likes it as much as I do, but they were all good sports. It was fun to try something new!

They boys got sausage, and the girls got Weiner schnitzel. Yum!

We hiked up to "Enchanted Rock" Which was a beautiful lookout outside of town. This is the area where there are actual hills in Texas, and it's not just flat. It was a nice hike and beautiful area.

Here are Brian and Lisa. They were wonderful travel buddies, we enjoyed them a ton! We played lots of games and had a great time with them. I was impressed Lisa made this hike without complaint....8 months pregnant!

Here is "enchanted rock"....the biggest hill around. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a mountain, but we'll take what we can get. :)

It was a wonderful trip, and I'd like to go back!
