I never thought I'd live in Texas.

We've officially lived in Texas a year.
We moved into our apartment one year ago today.
Does this mean that wherever we move next, we have to say that we're from Texas?

My observations of Texas:
* The reason why people love Texas so much? It's not the weather or the landscape. It's the people. People here are so nice.
* Texas is conservative. It is normal to talk openly about conservative values and discuss religion. Most people that I encounter actually DO go to church.
* There are weird bugs here. Bugs I never even knew existed. Luckily I haven't had to encounter too many in my apartment.
* It is strangely cool to homeschool your kids here.
* Traffic in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is horrible. I don't know who planned the layout of the roads and highways, but I am confident that a 3rd grader could have done better.
* What did people ever do without a GPS? We have become so dependent on ours. Especially navigating through the wild highways. Yes, I just mentioned the bad highways again. They really are that bad, they deserve another mention.
* The weather changes a lot. More than Utah. I never know what to wear! Within one day I sometimes run both the AC and the heater in the car.
* Everyone here has a truck. My favorite truck story: We moved here, and I asked the RS president if there was anyone in the ward who had a truck who could help us move a couch. She responded.. " Hmm... I don't think there is anyone in the ward who DOESN'T have a truck." Problem solved.
* No wonder Texans are the fattest in the U.S. The first thing I noticed when I moved here was how many restaurants there were. And the funny thing is, they are always PACKED.
* There is so much to do here! It is fun to live between two big cities. There are always free festivals and events to go to, as well as museums and rodeos! :)

We have really enjoyed living here. It has been a great place for us, and we both feel like we have really grown and learned a lot here. I never dreamed I'd like living here, but now it feels like home!
